There is also a covered patio area outside for smokers. The Castle was one of Young’s original five pubs when they took over The Ram Brewery in 1831.

Piggy Dave: The Castle is an old Ram Brewery pub, now owned by Young’s. There is wooden flooring in the main bar with carpet in the back room. There were a few people in the bar when we walked in, most milling around the bar watching football. We sat in the back bar where there were comfy seats and rustic furniture, though it was a little disconcerting hearing the football commentary through the speaker when there was no screen to watch the game on in the back. Decor is foodie grey and cream, but they don’t serve food on Monday nights. Lots of rugby pictures and a signed Chelsea shirt adorn the walls. There is a real fire in the front bar and a nicely tiled fireplace in the back bar. There is a pool table for those who like to play while having a drink. Decent enough pub and like most Young’s houses it’s not pretending to be anything it isn’t.

Piggy Corin: The Castle is a welcoming pub serving Young’s beer. It takes up quite a sprawling area with rooms and plenty of nooks and crannies to escape the football should one wish. Dimmed lighting, wooden floors, comfy seating and an open fire all make for a pleasant atmosphere. There were a few locals chatting and watching the game, clearly at home here. Service was prompt and the beer well-kept. Out the back is a large patio area for those hardy souls who want to retire out there on a chilly night. All in all, a perfectly reasonable local.
