The Weir, Brentford

The Weir, 22-24 Market Pl, Brentford TW8 8EQ. Telephone: 020 8568 3600. Website: http://www.theweirbar.co.uk/
Pig Mark 52. The Weir was originally named The White Horse when it was built in 1603 and is the oldest remaining pub in Brentford. It was probably rebuilt somewhere around the 1920s to what is thought to be a Nowell Parr design, due to the Royal Doulton tiles outside. A plaque on the wall outside notes that it was home to the artist JMW Turner in 1785 (when he was ten years old). In the 1980s the pub was extended to take in the neighbouring Victorian house. It was renamed The Weir in 2002.

The Beehive, Brentford

The Beehive, Brentford

The Beehive, 227 High Street, Brentford TW8 0JG. Telephone: 020 8560 2215. Website: http://www.beehivebrentford.co.uk/
Pig Mark 58. The Beehive was originally built around the 1840s by the Beehive Brewery but the current building was built in 1907 and is a Nowell Parr design. It wasn’t originally on the corner but the widening of Half Acre to allow for tram lines necessitated the rebuild and its repositioning. Of particular note is the beehive on the roof and the rather lovely marble colonnades either side of the ‘Restaurant Entrance’ as well as the other marble facia on the outside. It is now a Fuller’s pub. The Beehive was featured as ‘The Wasp’s Nest’ in D S Floyd’s murder mystery, Must Flea.
